The Junior Church Council (JCC) of the Diocese of Manicaland empowers our emerging young leaders—typically aged 11 to 16—to take an active role in shaping the life and witness of their parish. Under the guidance of adult mentors and clergy, the JCC provides a structured forum where juniors learn governance, decision-making, and collaborative planning grounded in Christian values. Here, faith meets responsibility, equipping tomorrow’s church leaders with hands-on experience in service and stewardship.
Each council term, members are elected by their peers and given portfolios—such as worship, outreach, communications, and hospitality—to plan and execute age-appropriate projects. Whether organizing an inter-parish prayer walk, coordinating a seasonal fundraising drive, or designing social-media devotional posts, JCC members practice teamwork, creativity, and accountability. Through regular council meetings, training days, and retreats, they develop practical skills in budgeting, event management, and public speaking, all while deepening their relationship with Christ.
Beyond parish life, the JCC connects with the wider diocese at annual junior synods and leadership conferences. These gatherings offer workshops on topics like ethical leadership, conflict resolution, and community engagement, as well as opportunities for fellowship across deaneries. By meeting peers from other congregations, junior councillors gain fresh ideas, broaden their horizons, and form lasting Christian friendships that encourage mutual support.
We encourage every parish to nurture a Junior Church Council as a vital link between its younger members and the wider church community. In giving youths a real voice—guided by prayer, Scripture, and pastoral care—we cultivate confident, compassionate, and capable Christians who will lead with integrity wherever God calls them next.
